The Women’s MLBB squad almost grabbed the gold against in-form Malaysia at the 33rd SEA Games. The girls who play professionally for Natus Vincere Philippines almost took it home in Game 6 but a gallant stand by Malaysia fueled their comeback. Malaysia secured the Gold in seven games against the hungry Philippine squad.

With the taste of Gold so near for the girls with a 3-2 score line coming into the Game 6, complacency unfortunately became a factor. Head coach Salman ‘KingSalman’ Macarambon was quick to apologize to the fans after their lost in the press conference.
“So un guys, una sa lahat sorry. Sa mga sumusuporta sorry nag short kami. Sa nangyari lalo na nun Game 7, sa draft nag matter and admit ko rin sa sarili ko na may ego talaga na nangyari. Pero comitted kami nun final draft. Nagagawa namin sa scrims and napractice namin pero may momentum din talaga un kabila (Malaysia)”
(First of all guys sorry. We fell short for the people supporting us. What happened in Game 7, with the draft… admitedly our ego was involved. But we committed to it in the end. We executed it properly in scrims and practice but Malaysia’s momentum gave them the advantage.)
The girls also mentioned that the meta favored the Malaysians more was the real difference maker for them in the interview.
“Sa amin po mas sa meta kaysa sa strategy. Lalo na po tatlo un main players nila ay Exp laners talaga and un meta mas bagay sa fighter and balagbagan. Mas bagay talaga sa composition nila and un chemistry nila nabuo agad nila nang mabilis.”
(For us it was really more of a meta issue than a strategy issue. Three of their players are pure Exp laners and the meta favors the constant clashes and fighters. It was just perfect for their composition and they definitely had more chemistry than us.)
While the Women’s MLBB team could not claim the Gold, lessons were learned and the team will definitely come back stronger next time.
